Factors like cold, acute psychosis, circadian and pulsatile rhythms positively affect hypothalamus in the brain to send signals to anterior pituitary gland which secretes TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone which acts on receptor sites of the thyroid gland causing it to produce the hormones T3,T4. These  in turn negatively affect the hypothalamus causing it to send signal to anterior pituitary so it does not continue to produce TSH . Severe stress, Corticoids,  Dopamine and excess Iodide from outside sources cause a negative influence,  checking hormone production.

EZEKIEL’S THYROID PROBLEM

Hypermetabolism > heat produced instead of ATP or energy for body use. When breaking down exceeds building up there is weight loss due to negative nitrogen balance. Diminished resistance predisposed him to attack of Mycobacterium t.

WHAT WE DID

As spouses we repented of our fight that opened the door for our children. As parents we asked their forgiveness and received it, then closed the door.

Meanwhile thyroid function tests were being done but since results were not conclusive, thyroid drugs were temporarily withheld. He clinically improved, evidenced by impressive weight gain and good psyche. Subsequent lab tests revealed normal values, even without medication.

Church tendency to engage in works not energized by the Holy Spirit > leads to burn out in workers due to dead works.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis

This offending organism in Pott's Disease mostly affects the lungs rather than the bone. It is almost ubiquitous in Philippine setting where 23M Pinoys are exposed, says DOH, August 20,2000 PDI news. Rapid urbanization,  migration and increase in HIV/AIDS cases cited as reason for increase of TB cases in RP.

Its entry into the body is insidious, subtle, slow > chronic. It is intracellular. When gobbled up by phagocytes , the soldier cells of the body are unable to lyse them, so bacilli are able to replicate even inside the cells. Tissue damage is due to reaction of normal bystander cells  (like civilians caught in crossfire between government military forces and Abu Sayyaf and/or MILF)

Coming into a church usually undetected, SEDUCING SPIRITS > turn person away from God and his word/will, to other works, even good  but dead works, causing members to be bored with their family or local church,  they become critical of leadership etc., are seduced to other churches causing splits and hurts within the Body of Christ.

This erode the bone structure of the church, bitterness having opened it to a foreign body waiting for its chance to invade the Body of Christ.  Target: Leadership, the backbone, to erode it as in osteoporosis. The entrance  of seducing spirits is similarly subtle, insidious, even slow, leading to a chronic affair like tuberculosis.

MAN'S GALL, GOD'S GRACE

When he was in 3rd year high school last year, Ezekiel was in a trial Saturday class program that has been scrapped out this school year.  Unusual schedule led to erratic eating habits that wrought havoc on his health,  I used to say, but on hind sight, this was also violation of Sabbath rest. God  winked at our ignorance in the past, but is telling us now to repent. Indeed  God's laws cannot be mocked. And ignorance of the law excuses no  one.

In all these however, his grace and mercy continues to shine thru. You see, that was also the year that he took interest in chess opting it for PE instead of basketball, which he used to enjoy so much. Then this school year his 4th year hi, hyperthyroid signs that could easily be shrugged as nervousness in CAT were noted on the first day of military training. He could not see any such correlation though. The officers were not that scary, he says.  They even tend to be lenient, because by the second or third meeting when his platoon could not complete 20 pushups they let it go at that.

Strenuous activities in PE or CAT could have disastrous effects to a backbone being eroded in four places. But his hyperthyroid symptoms prompted us to expedite diagnostic work up which led us to Pott's D and the Philippine Orthopedic Center. The complication dreaded by my colleagues, collapse of vertebrae due to trauma causing paralysis, was circumvented.  Restricted to bed level activity, we’ve had time to mull on the omniscience of God and to be awed by his perfect timing.

God strengthens; God preserves. Until such time when we can be responsible for our choices. While we are in the dark trying to get accustomed to the darkness putting up with bumps here and there, God leads us out to his light, his truth. What we do with that truth, he then holds us accountable. That God should command the Sabbath rest for our own good is just like Him, the loving God. His laws are perfect. We sulk no more and Ezekiel is taking his  lessons from Him beautifully.
